The brief

A limited independent feature, final act. The needle drop runs three minutes and twenty seconds under the last scene and the first half of the credits. The director wants a record that feels found, not scored. It has to sit under dialogue for the first forty seconds, then take the room when the dialogue stops. Vocals are welcome if the lyric is not literal. No trailer risers, no obvious drops, no library ambience.

The scene

Late afternoon, a two lane road out of the city. A woman drives away from a house she has just left for the last time. She does not cry. She rolls the window down. Light goes gold, then flat, then blue. The camera never cuts back. The record has to carry the whole distance without telling the audience how to feel.

Official judging criteria

Brief fit: does it serve the scene as written
Emotional truth: does it earn the moment without pushing
Production quality: does it clear a broadcast and theatrical mix
Dialogue headroom: does it hold under speech for the first forty seconds
Distinction: does it sound like a record, not like library music
Clearability: single owner, clean splits, instrumental available

Forecasts do not determine the winner. The locked NBF panel selects the Official Pick against the published brief and rules, and never sees a forecast, a crowd number or a model output before scores are submitted.

RULES, VERSION 1
1. Eight finalists were selected by the NBF panel from consented submissions. The roster is locked and cannot change.
2. Every listener hears all eight records blind. Artist names, follower counts, stream counts, prior placements and all crowd numbers stay hidden until a first forecast is locked.
3. A first forecast can only be locked after meaningful listening on every finalist.
4. The first blind forecast is permanent. It is recorded against a frozen information snapshot and can never be edited after the Crowd Signal is revealed.
5. Forecasts do not affect judging. The official winner is chosen independently by the locked NBF panel against the published brief and criteria.
6. NBF points are non redeemable, carry no cash value and cannot be bought, sold or exchanged.
7. Results lock in when the panel submits scores. The resolution record is permanent and public.
